How does Kharkiv IT Cluster Prepares Beginners for Careers in IT?

Kharkiv IT Cluster continues to support the future of Ukraine’s IT industry and creates conditions for the professional development of aspiring talents. A systematic approach to education, combined with the support of industry experts, enables young talents to launch their careers effectively. This year, the community-made another significant step forward — updating competency matrices and conducting consultations to clearly outline the critical skills required for a successful start in IT.

Skills Matrix: A Clear Guide to Career Growth

The Skills Matrix is a tool developed in collaboration with leading IT companies to define clearly the demands of the modern labour market. These matrices include lists of essential skills for beginners in various IT domains — from design to programming languages. We created them to serve as a standard for educational institutions and students, enabling them to focus efforts on the most critical aspects of the profession and ensure an effective career launch.

Thanks to the contributions of companies like Aimprosoft, Altexsoft, Artjoker, CodeIT, GlobalLogic, WEBSPARK and OLEARIS, to the already existing 13 competency matrices covering relevant technical areas of the modern IT market, 7 new competency matrices were added, including:

• Data Analyst
• Machine Learning
• Database Engineer
• PHP Development
• C++ Development
• iOS Development
• .Net Development

These matrices provide educational institutions with up-to-date recommendations approved by real industry professionals to design curricula. Students can evaluate their knowledge level and plan their development, while employers gain access to candidates ready to meet the real market demands.

Career Consultations: The Path to a Professional Start

To better explain the demands of the modern job market to newcomers, the Kharkiv IT Cluster regularly organizes career consultations. These serve as another effective tool to help beginners better understand current IT market requirements and structure their knowledge. During these sessions, students receive:

• Expert advice from representatives of leading IT companies on starting a career;
• Practical assistance in creating resumes, preparing for interviews, and identifying key skills necessary to become a true professional;
• The opportunity to ask questions and get honest, realistic insights about working in the IT sphere.

In November, such events were held with the support of ErgoServ and Avenga. During these consultations:

• Yulia Tychynska, Project Manager at ErgoServ, shared advice on professional development for future project managers.
• Yaryna Yanchynska, Recruiter at Avenga, provided practical recommendations for creating a competitive resume.

A total of 155 students joined the consultations, and received clear answers to the most troubling questions, learned how to present themselves and their skills effectively, and increased their motivation to further career development in IT.
