Professional standardisation in the IT industry is a fundamental tool for improving the quality of education, enhancing the skills of specialists and meeting the needs of the modern labour market. Professional standards form uniform rules of the game that allow businesses to fill their teams with qualified personnel more efficiently, and educational institutions to adapt their programmes to the current requirements of the industry.
The development of standards involves a harmonious combination of business and educational needs, which makes training as efficient and responsive to modern challenges as possible. A key element of this process is the certification of specialists, which provides an objective assessment of their qualifications, promotes professional growth and increases market competitiveness.
Kharkiv IT Cluster plays a leading role in this process, initiating the development of an ecosystem of standards that will become the basis for the sustainable development of the IT sector in Ukraine.
First steps: meeting of the expert group
The first milestone on this path was the formation and regular meetings of an expert group to develop professional standards for project managers: ‘Information Technology Manager and Software Development Project Manager. The participants are representatives of business, education, and industry experts, including:
- Iryna Diyuk, Kateryna Zaslavska (EPAM Україна),
- Kateryna Odintsova (WebMeridian),
- Nataliia Dotsenko (ХНУМГ ім. Бекетова),
- Olga Vorochek (ХНУРЕ),
- Mykhailo Maksymov (ХНУ ім. Каразіна, PioGroup),
- Nadiia Kolpachenko (ХТУ «IT Step»),
- Svitlana Yakovleva and Olena Dudnik (Kharkiv IT Cluster).
Experts are working on a list of job functions required to perform the role of a project manager and define professional competencies that correspond to different levels of qualification. The development process uses modern approaches and methodologies, including the PMBOK 7 standard.
Shaping the future of professions
Kharkiv IT Cluster initiates strategically important processes that not only update existing standards but also create conditions for the emergence of new professions needed in the rapidly changing world of technology. By aligning professional standards with the International Standard Classification of Occupations (ISCO-08), Ukrainian specialists will have more opportunities to compete in the global labour market.
This is just the beginning of a great deal of work. We invite businesses and educators to join the process to shape the future of professions that change the world together.
If you have any questions about joining the working group, please contact the coordinator of educational programmes and events at Kharkiv IT Cluster: 📩 edu.manager@it-kharkiv.com - Olena Dudnyk
